On today’s show, we will be discussing the roots and the current state of the Occupy movement in Kingston. We will begin with a conversation with Matt Thornton, who is one of the main organizers and activists working with Occupy Kingston. He will tell us about the roots of the movement and some of the initiatives that are currently being spearheaded by Occupiers in Kingston. We will then talk to Anne-Marie Grondin about Occupy Queen’s, drop fees, and some of the educational issues that the Occupy Queen’s movement brought to light. Finally, we will talk to Nathalie Banger, the manager of the new Memorial Centre Market. She will tell us about the importance of eating local, what the Market has to offer, and what initiatives they have planned for the upcoming months.

On today’s show, we will be talking about the ongoing student strikes in Quebec. We will begin the show with a conversation with Jeffrey Monaghan, a Ph.D student in Sociology and Surveillance Studies here at Queen’s, about the protesters in Montreal. He will tell us about his involvement with the protests, where he thinks they will go and how they connect to other social movements. We will then talk to Matt Thornton, one of the main organizers and advocates for the Occupy Kingston Movement. He will talk about the link between Occupy and the student protests, and how the media can report on the student protests differently. We will end the show with an interview featured on CKUT radio in Montreal with a student protesting in solidarity with the Quebec students in Toronto.

Today’s show will focus on the Lafarge Cement Plant in Bath, Ontario. Specifically, Anoosh will explore Lafarge’s latest decision to use railway ties and shingles as fuel in their cement kiln. The first interview on the show will be a panel discussion with Robert Cumming, the Environmental and Public Relations Representative of Lafarge, Warren Mabee, a Professor at the Department of Geography at Queen’s, and Stephen Price, a representative from WWF-Canada. The second interview will be with Mark Mattson, the President of the Lake Ontario Waterkeepers, about the negative repercussions of the Lafarge plant’s kiln on the Lake and the surrounding environment.

Today’s show will kick off our interview series on the newly announced National Mental Health Strategy. Our first interview will be with Vicky Huehn, the Executive Director of the Frontenac Community Mental Health and Addiction Services. She will talk about how the new Strategy was formed, how it will be implemented and what impact it will have on the Kingston community specifically. This will be followed by an interview with Kavita Bissoondial about Queens’ OPIRG chapter’s People’s History Project. The project aims to create a historical record of social movements in Kingston. The interview will feature some of the ways the project will grow this year as well as give tips on how Kingstonians and Queen’s students can get involved.

Today’s show will focus on the separation of CFRC radio 101.9 from the Alma Mater Society at Queen’s University. Interviews with representatives from both parties will air on tonight’s show. First, we will feature a conversation with Terra Arnone, the Media Services Director at the AMS, about the AMS’s perspective on the separation. This will be followed by an in-depth interview with Kristiana Clemens, the Operations Officer at CFRC, about how the separation will affect the station, and what listeners can do to support it once CFRC is independent.
Anoosh Nourizadeh-Kollou’s interview with Jason Beaubiah, the director of the Kingston Youth Shelter, will close the show.

Today’s show will take a broader perspective on the budget cuts recently announced by the Conservative Government. Specifically, the show will focus on how the cuts will affect public service employees throughout many departments and in Kingston. FIrst on our show, we have an interview with Pradeep Kumar, a Professor in the School of Policy Studies here at Queen’s. His research focuses on collective bargaining and unions, allowing him to give us an in-depth look on the history of the relationship between unions and the Canadian government, as well as some of the most pervasive cuts being made to the public service. Our second interview focuses moreso on how the cuts will affect Kingston specifically. Linda Cross, the Kingston representative for the Public Service Alliance of Canada, gives us an in-depth perspective of how Kingstonians will be affected and what the unions will do to make provisions for the cuts.
